without doubt the most arrogant owner i have ever come across, i remember coming in here with my girlfriend and seeing on spare table as i entered i was approached by an smarmy looking peroxide blonde, she didnt say anything so i asked is it still open; the answer was astonishing!!!i don't know she said so i asked can you check with the manager or whoever - she replied i am the manager and i decide if i am open!!! - something no quite right here, but for sure the name the cauldron was most appropriate so we beat a hasty retreat but had nightmares later of three evil witches cooking up a meal for me A La Macbeth
We were in Swanage for the last ever jazz festival and booked for the Friday night. The Cauldron is quirky but very welcoming. Margaret and Terry spend about three days sourcing their raw ingredients and although on the expensive side, their careful preparation really shows. We had the whole Dover sole with hand cut chips. It's the best fish I've ever eaten! Terry brought one out on a plate to show us before he cooked it and it was divine. You get the table for the evening so if you have the time (we didn't), you could spend a whole evening dining on freshly prepared, as ordered, superb food. When we visit again, we shall ensure that we book a table. Well done to both of the owners. This isn't fast food, and neither should it be. A unique dining experience!
Wonderfully engaging owners who are really proud of the food they cook.
The best food in Dorset...so far. My Aberdeen Angus fillet was absolutely amazingly perfect!!!
Me and my partner were very lucky to get a table at this hidden gem. Someone cancelled their reservation so we managed to book on the same day, although we were told by locals that people wait around 3 months to book here. The charming couple that run this establishment only open 2-3 days a week. If you're able to get a table, I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's not cheap, but the food and service warrant every penny. We had scallops to start, and fillet steak for mains. Both courses were perfect. The best thing about visiting here is they only serve a few tables each evening, so unlike many eateries nowadays, you are not rushed. If you want to spend an hour nursing a bottle of wine you can do so and relax. We hope to visit again one day.
